Digging APOD

Posted on 14 March 2008 · 615 views · 131 words.

Listen, I love APOD but I am a bit fed up of everyone on Digg filling up the digg/space category with endless APOD images. They’re very pretty, and we all like them, but how am I supposed to know when a really amazing one comes up if you all digg every single one? Also the presence of APOD on digg is shifting other, more worthy and original stories off of my RSS feed.

APOD does carry some awesome images, like the one shown in this post. But, like a lot of people, I check APOD almost every day and as such I don’t think it warrants digging.
Thank you, rant over.

I think APOD’s frequent popularity on Digg is a good thing - just consider it from the perspective of the main page instead of the Space category:

Digg is in the top 20 most-visited websites on the Internet, so what happens on Digg affects the thoughts and attention of millions of people.

More APOD stories on Digg = more people thinking about space, period.
