Night Sky Note for March 24, 2008

Posted on 24 March 2008 · 329 views · 85 words.

Tonight: Mars is 55° to the west of Saturn. Mars is moving eastward against the background star. Saturn is slowly moving westward. Saturn will end its retrograde motion in May but Mars will continue moving towards Saturn. The two planets will pass each other during the second week of July. Watch over the next few months as the gap shrinks between the pair of planets.

I am studying for my PhD in Astronomy at Cardiff University in the UK. Star formation is my main area of research but really I like anything to do with space, science and the internet.
