Orbiting Frog is run by Robert Simpson who is currently studying for his PhD in Star Formation at Cardiff University in the UK. Originally hailing from England, Rob made the move to Wales for his undergraduate degree and after falling in love with and marrying a (sort of) Welsh girl, he stayed. Along with their dog, Uncle Monty, and a motley crew of friends, they remain in Cardiff… for now.
Astronomy has always been a fascination for the author; his favourite constellation is Orion and his favourite planet is Jupiter. Star Formation being the topic of his PhD, Rob tries to stay abreast of such matters but often finds himself coding HTML and PHP when he ought to be collapsing cloud cores.
So far his thesis looks to consist of a mis-mash of the initial mass function, 3D data visualisation and science communication. We can only live in hope. If you don’t know what any of those are, you’re not alone.
Orbiting Frog officially began in 2006, when the author realised he could do something useful with all those questions he always got asked about space. Now it continues between university commitments and dog walking. Occasionally it allows him and those around him to have some fun making up silly things to put on t-shirts in the Orbiting Frog shop.
